Property History

In the 1800s, Site 1 was key to the loading and unloading of cargo from colorful paddlewheel steamships that stopped in Baton Rouge on their way down to New Orleans or upriver to Ohio.

Starting in the 1950s, the site was home to the publishing company, Capital City Press, which was founded in 1909 and grew to include both radio and broadcast communication entities. For well over a century the location has been, literally and figuratively, at the heart of the capital city’s business, industrial and political life.
